Experiment 1.1

• Make a cover for a bulb using construction paper and cut narrow slit in the paper about 3mm wide. Place over the bulb. 

• Place another piece of paper over the top of the tube.

*By using aerosol spray, can see a light beam 

Experiment 1.2

• Use a flashlight against a colored and white piece of construction paper. 

• Change the angle of the flashlight to see how that affects the beam of light being produced

*Larger angle between the flashlight and the table casts larger beam and vise versa. Each piece of paper produced a different brightness. 

Experiment 1.3

• Look at an unlit light bulb with the cover over it, can you see it?

• When you look at the cover over the bulb, where can you see the bulb and can light from anywhere else strike the bulb?

*In order to see the bulb, you must place your head near the slit (easier when using a flashlight to shine). Light from the surrounding environment can also hit the bulb. 

Experiment 1.4

• "At night it is dark, but during the day it is bright because the sun lights up objects. When objects are lit up I can see them" 

*The sun is luminous and allows you to see objects (light source). Objects don't produce their own light unless they are luminous (the moon is too). Light has to strike an object and reflect off in order to see the object (position and properties of the object are important too). This statement is mostly correct.

Experiment 1.5

• How are the experiments performed so far consistent with the motion of light?

*An observer cannot see an unlit bulb in a dark room, but once we flashed a flashlight on a bulb in experiment 1.3, the bulb was visible to see. This was because the flashlight became the source and reflected from the bulb into the observer's eyes.

• Lab partner is in a dark hallway, you are by a doorway that enters into it.......

*Since the light is traveling down a dark hallway and there isn't anything in front of the door to reflect the light into the person's eyes, you wouldn't be able to tell if the light was on or not.
